Sangles d’arrimage and lashing straps for the French market

A French enquiry says sangle d’arrimage or sangle à cliquet, and rates the strap by its capacité d’arrimage (LC) in daN. We build to NF EN 12195-2 and label in French wording, with the warning the French documentation expects to see on a lashing strap.

First, the words

The words your buyer uses

Half of the back-and-forth in an export order is vocabulary. Here is what the same product is called in this market, and which of those words changes what we print on the label.

TermWhat it meansWhy it decides the order

sangle à cliquetratchet strapthe ratchet build, as opposed to a lever or cam buckle
tendeur à cliquetratchet tensionerspecified separately from the webbing

How France secures a load

General duty in the Code, technical detail in the standard

In France the general duty sits in article R 312-19 of the Code de la route: the load must be arranged and secured so that it cannot drag, fall, move dangerously or affect the stability of the vehicle. That article names no standard — the technical detail comes from the NF EN 12195 series and the EU roadside inspection framework.

  • NF EN 12195 part 1 is the calculation, part 2 the synthetic webbing straps, part 3 the chains and part 4 the steel wire rope lashings. Quoting a strap from part 2 into a calculation from part 1 is the normal way of working.
  • NF EN 12640 covers the lashing points on the vehicle and NF EN 12642 the strength of the body structure. A strong strap on a weak anchor point is not a secured load, and a Code XL body changes what the calculation has to achieve.
  • The label carries LC, STF and SHF, the length, the material (PES) and the warning that the strap is not to be used for lifting. That warning is on every official French lashing document, and it belongs on yours.
  • Insufficient securing is a class 4 contravention in France and the vehicle can be immobilised until the load is corrected. The fine is the smaller cost — the delay and the cargo claim are the larger ones.
  • Liability is not only the driver's. The shipper, the loader and the carrier are all exposed, and in international carriage the CMR Convention governs how a damage claim is settled. The secured load is the defence in that dispute.

Marking

What goes on the label

Site and roadside inspections fail on labels more often than on the product. Every strap and sling we ship for this market can be marked with the full set:

  • Manufacturer or supplier name and country of origin
  • NF EN 12195-2 as the standard number
  • LC in daN, plus STF and SHF (normally 50 daN)
  • Length, material (PES) and the elongation at LC
  • The French warning text, including that the strap is not for lifting
Documentation

What travels with the shipment

  • Declaration of conformity to NF EN 12195-2, or NF EN 1492-1 / -2 for slings
  • Batch pull-test report linked to the goods
  • TÜV GS certificates and the TÜV CERT DIN EN ISO 9001 certificate
  • A written LC statement per line, so your customer can put it straight into a calculation
  • Invoice, packing list and certificate of origin for French customs

Working with us

How an order is placed

01

Send the LC and the body type

The LC in daN, the length, the end fitting and whether the trailer is a tautliner, flat or container. A photo of the lashing point saves a round of questions.

02

Approve the French label

We send the label artwork in French wording, including the not-for-lifting warning, for approval before the run — so nothing is reprinted and nothing ships with the wrong language.

03

Production and paperwork

Batch production with pull testing, then the certificate pack for your importer. Le Havre, Marseille and Dunkirk schedules are routine.
