Lashing straps and ratchet straps for the German market
A German buyer asks for a Zurrgurt or a Ratschengurt, and expects the label to carry a Lashing Capacity to EN 12195-2 in daN. That is exactly what we build — in our own 8,700 m² factory in Zhejiang, with the TÜV GS approvals and the DIN EN ISO 9001 system that German purchasing departments screen for.
The words your buyer uses
Half of the back-and-forth in an export order is vocabulary. Here is what the same product is called in this market, and which of those words changes what we print on the label.
| Term | What it means | Why it decides the order |
|---|---|---|
| Zurrgurt | lashing strap | the word in the enquiry — answer it with LC, never with SWL |
| Ratschengurt | ratchet strap | tensioned by ratchet; a Spanngurt is the lighter cam buckle build |
| Ladungssicherung | load securing | the discipline the buyer is buying into |
| Niederzurren | tie-down (friction) lashing | the vertical lashing most orders are for |
| Direktzurren | direct lashing | diagonal to the load — heavy plant and steel |
| Zurrpunkt | lashing / anchor point | on the vehicle, rated and marked separately from the strap |
The strap count is calculated, not guessed
In Germany the number of straps follows from a calculation. EN 12195-1 is the calculation standard and the VDI 2700 series is the guideline that shippers, insurers and the police work from.
- The number of straps follows from the load weight and the friction coefficient between load and deck — not from how many straps happened to be in the locker.
- Anti-slip matting changes that calculation more than adding another strap does. If your customer loads steel on timber, the first question is what they put under it.
- A lashing strap is marked with LC (Lashing Capacity) in daN. Writing SWL or WLL on a lashing strap is a marking error in Germany, and it is the mistake we see most often in samples sent to us for comparison.
- The tensioner has to stay reachable so the driver can re-tension on the road. That is why ratchet and over-centre straps are specified separately from internal straps.
- GS-marked tie downs from a TÜV-inspected factory are what German buyers recognise without asking twice, and the certificate number belongs on the quotation.

Curtain-side straps to EN 12195-2
Over-centre buckle straps sized so the tensioner clears the curtain track on a curtainsider — the fitting German and Dutch fleets ask about most.
Ratschengurt with the full German label
LC in daN, EN 12195-2, length, extension at LC, manufacturer, date and batch. Hand ratchet, long wide handle or Ergo grip.

What goes on the label
Site and roadside inspections fail on labels more often than on the product. Every strap and sling we ship for this market can be marked with the full set:
- Manufacturer name and country of origin
- EN 12195-2 as the standard number
- LC in daN, the length, and the extension at LC
- Date of manufacture and a traceable batch number
- German-language warning and care text
What travels with the shipment
- Declaration of conformity to EN 12195-2, or EN 1492-1 / -2 for slings
- Batch pull-test report linked to the serial numbers on the goods
- TÜV GS certificates — ratchet tie downs (S 50594629), flat webbing slings (S 50594633)
- TÜV CERT DIN EN ISO 9001 quality management certificate
- Packing list, invoice and certificate of origin for customs
